The Wet Room

One of my favorite amenities really came together nicely in this rare, more traditional take on my Ethos Plan. I dig the visual effect of having the modern standalone tub built-in to the oversized shower. It’s nearly always the most talked about amenity any time I do it in a home. As a Dad of kids who love to take baths and splash while doing so, this is a great solution because the tub is within a fully-waterproofed space, that’s easily rinsed down afterwards. To top it off, there’s plenty of natural light throughout this bathroom, not to mention great connectivity both to the master suite and to the master closet, which is equipped with a vanity space and out of season storage. (Staging by the talented team at @mybeautifulhomestaging !)

Elements Of Staging By My Beautiful Home Staging.
We throw the term “Master Suite” around a lot in the Real Estate world. It’s marketing language often used that is commonly imprecise and hyperbolic. To call it a “suite”, it needs to be more than the largest bedroom in the house with a bathroom and closet attached to it.

Exhibit 1 for my case: this true master suite, which has an additional living area complete with an entertainment wall, fireplace, and access to the covered patio. Whether it’s a place to retreat to privately wind down for the remaining hour of the day, or space so accommodating there’s a justifiable reason to not even leave the room until noon on a Saturday, this added space can bring a tremendous amount of functional value to a home. So whether you call it the Master Suite, Master Retreat, or Netflix-And-Chill Headquarters, it’s best that the goods to warrant the title.

Forever a fan of this collaborative outcome with an adventurous client with whom most of the decisions were made via FaceTime since they lived out of state while it was being built. This modern farmhouse makeover of the Ethos plan by Jeff Click Design | Build, staged impeccably by My Beautiful Home Staging offers an expansive menu of enhancements spacially and aesthetically. Sitting atop a lot that is elevated over the adjacent greenbelt, the backdrop of the home is a rare, wooded view for this part of town. With 2.5 baths, vast great room and kitchen, the design lives as a true 4-bedroom plan, though the 4th bedroom doubles quite nicely as a study, rec room, or formal dining room given its proximity to the kitchen. Views of the wooded greenbelt are strategically maximized from the great room, master suite, and 4th bed/study/rec/dining room.

I’m no stranger to taking arrows for building a non-traditional product. Heck, my slogan is “I specialize in different.” It comes most often from neighbors whose homes are more traditional in architectural style, as though a mix of tasteful eclecticism is somehow a detriment to a community. Usually when this happens, I do what I do, deal with the drama, and aim to keep my clients out of it.

I’m told this home…a blend of coastal modern bungalow...outraged some neighbors to the point they sought to meet with the developer about it, and demanded that I change the original front door color because it was too bold for their…their, not my client’s...tastes.

🤦🏻‍♂️

Here’s the finished product with a more muted color choice after the change required, along with a little preview of the interior (more to come here on insta, or you can see the photo tour now via the link in the bio), and the last photo in the stack being a shot of the door before it was changed from that offensive, atrocious, depreciatingly-bold color.

Now that the keys have been turned over to the clients of this spec-turned-custom Aria at 7408 NW 158th in Rockwell Parke, let's take a gaze at some of my favorite views and amenities that sets this one apart.

Tetris fan? You'll feel oddly at ease walking to the front door here, led by a sophisticated arrangement of blocks and rectangles with this unique hardscape and landscape design.


The 2-story foyer is bathed in natural light, which shows off the blend of hardwood and steel, demanding that you address it with proper pronunciation: Foy-YAY!
More like "For-YAY!".

Wide open spaces are abundant here, with the kitchen fully open to the living room, and vise versa. The living room includes a thoughtfully designed fireplace & entertainment wall that sits flush with one another for maximum views to the display.

The kitchen includes a main appliance and cabinet wall that also includes 2 windows to provide additional natural lighting. The side cabinet wall provides numerous functional uses, from buffet, to coffee or martini bar. Of course the table is what so many people love...built-in, perfectly scaled, and ready to be as formal or as informal as you want to make it.


That Sexy Master Suite - It should be more than just a nice place to sleep. It should be a retreat, and that's just what the Aria Plan delivers. Of course the show stopper is the optional "Wet Room", which encapsulates a stand-alone mod tub inside the oversized shower with frameless glass. If that's not important to you, we can always dial it back to a standard, separate bath and shower design.

Outdoor space was a priority, both upstairs and down, with my signature rooftop deck, and an added outdoor fireplace on the downstairs covered patio.

On Gourmet Kitchens & Chef-Grade Vino Solutions

So you’d better be on your kitchen A-game when you design and build a kitchen for a bona-fide chef who has an appreciation for fine wines. I think real estate marketing is riddled with hyperbole and "over-adjectivizing” to make up for a lackluster product or photo, so this will probably be the only time you witness me calling out a “gourmet kitchen”. I think if there ever is such a thing, this would qualify since it was built for a gourmet chef.

Oh, and the wine rack. The client trusted me to “make it unique and amazing,” so I cooked up this custom-welded steel cabled wine rack that not only pairs well with the steel hand railing for the elevated floor, but also keeps the bottles tilted forward to keep that cork wet at all times while aging on display…in this gourmet kitchen. | jC •

My lower-priced homes get the same full treatment from inception to completion as my larger and custom homes. This sketch is depicting a refresh of the elevation of my little Virtus plan, which is about to get its final build for the foreseeable future. 

7129 NW 146 will be $229.9k, and held off the market until the end of Summer when it will be nearing completion. Offers accepted beginning 9.1.19.

It began with a sketch...

In the spirit of "before and after" shots, here is my original sketch of the elevation for this re-designed Aria elevation as compared to the final product. Custom-built from the ground up for clients in Rockwell Parke, I tweaked a few windows and minor details, but the outcome was pretty true to the vision.

I’m frequently asked what led me to specialize in contemporary and modern design. I answered this question and more this weekend in @news_ok ‘s annual Outlook feature in which @revmize looks at OKC’s past, present, and future of residential design.
XXOne. Ex-Ex-One. Twenty-One. It doesn't matter to me what you call it, but the name is derived from the fact that this is the first home design after my twentieth anniversary year as a builder, and is an exercise in trying to capture as much of what I've learned about design and to transmit that into a special arrangement of space. It's also designed with the NE16 re-development in mind, an Oklahoma City Urban Renewal - awarded project, where I'm building eight modern styled homes within a single block in an historic neighborhood just outside of downtown Oklahoma City.

Strength, honor, and character. It's what "Virtus" means in Latin, and it was the apropos name for this plan because of its design strengths and modern character, symbolized by its vertical architectural accent on its front elevation.

At just over 1,700 square feet, The Virtus plan delivers in all the right spaces, including large master suite, 2 spacious bedrooms, plus a smaller 4th bedroom/study with closet. All this, along with an exceptional open great room and kitchen with built-in table.
Perhaps my favorite aspect of design is exploring new ways to skin a familiar elevation. You can watch 2108 Heavenly Dr grow up, and even make it yours if you want to because it's for sale.
